WARDROBE BASICS - the essentials. Don't say we didn't tell you!

Let's face it: you don't wear all of the stuff in your closet. In fact, there are quite a lot of things that just sit there, on the shelves far far away, waiting for their 15 minutes of fame that might never come. What you wear daily are comfortable, fitting clothes that match well with other items and allow to accessorize. Are we right?

Let's face it: you don't wear all of the stuff in your closet. In fact, there are quite a lot of things that just sit there, on the shelves far far away, waiting for their 15 minutes of fame that might never come. What you wear daily are comfortable, fitting clothes that match well with other items and allow to accessorize. Are we right?

Why not approach this issue consciously: let's pile up an ultimate must-have list of basic wardrobe items that any woman needs, regardless of her age, occupation, and personal taste.

1) A pair of perfectly fitting denim or an equally comfortably pair of pants. Better choose a darker color, not blue; grey (wet brick road) shade will also do fine.

2) A cocktail dress. Contrary to a popular belief, this is not necessarily an LBD (little black dress). Stick to your usual preferences: a burgundy red or a mellow green, silverish or copper colors might be interesting. Also, feel free to experiment with the fabrics. However, try to avoid explicitly sexy or too eccentric dresses: your goal is to pick the most wearable dress that is appropriate to most events.

3) A plain white shirt. Simple as it is, the shirt should be expensive (reasonably, of course). Good quality cotton or silk cannot be cheap, and you definitely want the shirt to look decent for at least a couple of seasons.

4) A knee-length skirt that looks well on your figure. Here we deliberately abstain from recommending any specific silhouette or cut: you need to select one that fits you the best. Either by yourself or with a friend or a stylist, pick the one that compliments your curves (or lack thereof) with any type of footwear.

5) A cardigan of a bright color. Needless to say: this item will save your look more than you can imagine. It goes well with denim, skirts, jumpsuits and more. Just be sure to find the color that looks good with your skin tone.

6) Coverwear might be versatile, but you need at least two coats: one for mid-season time, and one for possible frosty weather. Leather jackets are also welcome, if you feel the need to have those.

7) Appreciate the simplicity and wide range of opportunity that your basic wardrobe gives you! With these items, you are free to choose any footwear and accessories you like!

This is your survival kit in the stormy sea of fashion. While trends replace each other faster than you notice them, these things will never let you down.
